Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher, is quoted as saying “change is the only constant in life.” In the past year, our experience would be described as a long transition. In the education community in our space this has been the biggest experience. We went through the lockdowns and came back to physical class learning. This process can in no way be small, our community; students and staff alike, have had to work hard in this transition back to what we considered normal. The pandemic still affects us today, students still need their masks and have to observe appropriate safety measures. This said, pointing out the lessons we have learnt; ‘prevention is better than cure.’
Premier Academy’s role in ensuring that our core values are enshrined in the Pastoral Program has also been rejuvenated. In this endeavor, the institution creates a space where the students have a wholesome educational experience; play, learn, develop through fun and creative ways. The requirement for the community to address the needs of every student’s personal, social, and emotional health is important. The PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) Curriculum focuses on providing resources and developing a healthy social environment for our future Global Citizens.
In efforts to enact this the school has subscribed to the PSHE Association UK, which has resources on contemporary topics that are to be taught in classes, through the pastoral care programme.
PSHE ASSOCIATION CURRICULUM
Pastoral care topics are designed to equip the students with social skills that ready them for the wider world. The main themes are Mental Health and Wellbeing, Relationships and Living in the wider world. These themes are addressed in class with age appropriate topics and discussions led by the Homeroom teachers. The teachers are equipped for a wide range of topics that affect our students’ everyday lives. Our objective is to embody the school’s core values so that our students may live a more impactful life.
This is a whole school effort geared towards growing together. Premier Academy believes in taking a holistic approach to creating a healthy environment for growth and learning.
“The merit of Latin prose literature, as exhibited in Caesar, Cicero, Levy and Tacitus, is that it teaches the intrinsic importance of human affairs, and inculcates dignity of character and conduct. (Browning, 1969, p. 86-87)”
