What is Kindergarten?

Kindergarten is Orientation; children learning to leave home and family during the day, learning to get along with classmates, developing positive self- esteem.

Kindergarten is experiencing; with building blocks, dramatized stories, cutting, pasting, painting, learning letter names and sounds.

Kindergarten is time necessary for acquiring the tools necessary for reading;

building vocabulary, learning how to read books, listening to stories, exposure to written words, learning to write using sound spelling.

Kindergarten is writing; developing large and fine muscles, learning to coordinate hand and eye-muscles, finger painting, drawing, colouring, pasting.

Kindergarten is Mathematics; building number concepts, estimating, collecting data, recognising shapes and sizes, measuring and building graphs.

Our main goal at Premier Kindergarten is to develop active learners who create and think critically through day to day interaction with adults and other children in play, classroom learning and exploration.

All parents are welcomed for a guided tour through to our purpose built facility that has been carefully planned and resourced to cater for different personalities, talents, cultures,and family backgrounds.


What does learning look like at Premier Kindergarten?

Premier Kindergarten offers an adapted Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.
The foundation stage curriculum is organised into six learning areas;


• Personal, social and emotional development:


This involves helping children to develop a positive sense of themselves, and others; to form positive relationships and develop respect for others; develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings and to have confidence in their own abilities.


• Communication and language;

ki2Involves giving children opportunities to experience a rich language environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves; and to speak and listen in a range of situations.




• Mathematical development;

ki6Involves providing children with opportunities to develop and improve their counting, understanding and using numbers, calculating, simple addition and subtraction problems; and to describe shapes, spaces and measures.


• Knowledge and understanding of the world;

ki7Involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.



• Physical development;


Premier Kindergarten provides opportunities for young children to keep active and interactive; and to develop their co-ordination, control and movement.





• Expressive arts and design;


At Premier, children are encouraged to share their thoughts, ideas and feelings, through a variety of activities in art, music, movement, dance, role-play, and design and technology.We cater for children of ages between two and a half to five year olds.
We have well trained and qualified staff and provision for enabling environments, both indoor and outdoor to enhance learning.
Our Kindergarten has adequate resources and keeps upgrading these to ensure that we keep up with the ever changing curriculum requirements.
Play is also stressed at the Kindergarten department. Well planned play activities are a key way in which children learn with enjoyment and challenge during the foundation stage.
Our classrooms and outside environments provide variety of spaces, materials and activities geared to promote active exploration and mastery.

Meals served at the kindergarten

Our meals and snacks are well balanced and nutritious.

We offer mid-morning snacks and milk to all children daily. A sample of a weekly mid-morning snack

is provided below:

Mondays: Milk and Cereal

Tuesdays: Fresh fruit and Milkkind7

Wednesdays: Hot Chocolate with Bread (with Honey)

Thursday: warm milk with doughnut/cupcakes

Fridays: Porridge oats/ banana.

Our lunches are available with vegetarian/ non vegetarian categories. A sample lunch menu is provided below:
Children who stay full day are provided with snack at 3.00pm before the end of our school day.
Special consideration is given to children with special dietary requirement and suitable arrangements are made between the parents and school to ensure we observe this to suit individual children.


Premier Kindergarten provides a holistic education for children aged 2 ½ to 5 ½ years, with provision of a wide range of learning experiences through well planned and prepared indoor and outdoor environments.

Our individualised and child centred approaches to teaching ensures that our children develop a positive self- concept which in turn gives them confidence and allows an open minded approach to learning, which ultimately will create independent self –driven life- long learners who will contribute positively to the global community.

Our typical playgroup classroom environments offer a rich variety of play material. Although the classrooms often appear informal, they are a result of careful planning and structuring. Our teachers  encourage curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. Children spend the majority of their day involved in in a variety of activities including: art, block building, dramatic play, sorting and matching games, gardening and sensory activities, water/sand and large motor play.ki3


8.00am-8.30am: Arrival/free play/ individualized reading activity

8.30am-9.00am: Toileting/washing hands/Circle time

9.00am-9.30 am: Pre-number/ Numeracy activity

9.30am-10.00am: pre-writing /writing activities

10.00am-10.15am: Mid –morning milk and snack

10.15-11.00am: Outdoor Play

11.00am-11.20am: Toileting/washing hands/picture reading activity

11.20-11.40am: I.T/Audio –visual /Swimming/ water play activities

11.50-12.00pm: Toileting/washing hands/snacks from home

12.00-12.15pm: tidy up/prepare to go home




Our Playgroup children spend most of their time engaged in play based learning, both within the classroom and outdoor learning environments. Learning through senses is stressed throughout this stage of learning. Activities that encourage listening, touching and feeling; visual discrimination, tasting and smelling are stressed throughout our playgroup curricular. Water/sand play is also stressed on from the very beginning. Children at this age are also introduced to swimming and basic I.T skills.



Our 3 ½ year olds are have attained quite a number of basic skills and can work at these independently and it is at this stage of learning that adults are bombarded with lots of questions during their day to day interactions with children within this age-group. These children continue to enjoy play and attention spans are getting longer. Careful planning at this level is given especially to include inquiry based learning in order to enable them obtain answers to their numerous questions through exploration and experiments. Independence is encouraged throughout this stage of learning whereby children are encouraged to use their own abilities in solving day to day problems.

PRE-SCHOOL EDUCATION FOR 4 ½ year old children

Four year old children have developed concepts of themselves and have learnt to do plenty of things on their own. Activities at this level of education are developed to ensure that they are self- directed with a reasonable amount of challenge to enable children experience success so as to boost their confidence in trying out new skills.



Education and development are important, but we know that nothing matters more than the safety, security and health of your child while at our Kindergarten.
Our high quality playground equipment is safe, sturdy and is inspected and cleaned regularly to ensure that it is always in good working order.Our outdoor play areas are surrounded with a secure fenced area.
Playgrounds are inspected daily to ensure removal of stones, fallen sticks and other dangerous objects that could be harmful to children during play.

Health and wellness:
Teachers assess children’s health status daily and notify parents when children are not in their optimum behaviour.safetyyyy
We notify parents when children are sick so as to prevent illness from spreading.
We have taken measures to ensure that only authorized persons are allowed to pick up children from school.

General cleanliness:
We clean our Kindergarten facility regularly each day to ensure maintenance of good hygiene.
Our cleaning supplies are kept well out of children’s reach.
We regularly clean and disinfect children’s toys and general resources that are used by children while at school.
We encourage children to wash their hands using soap throughout each day.
All our staff are trained in first aid.
We ensure that all medication within the school or brought from home is not passed the expiry date and is locked away.
We carry out annual safety awareness programmes and a fire drill.
